What we’ve been up to…

Buster is now going on 3 weeks.  We got over his little indigestion problem, and he’s settling into a routine.

Weather has been HOT.  Like really really hot.  So today was sunny and nice.
The next few weekends are busy — visitors, a wedding, and camping.

But this weekend we decided to relax….

Buster Update

So its now 48 hours with the ‘Bus.  More info:

  • He is part beagle, part basset hound.  We checked out the hybrid dog sites, and we found this hybrid breed in breeding circles is called a “BAGLE”.  He looks like one too.
  • He is able to be left by himself in his room if either everyone is sleeping, or everyone is gone.
  • He does not care if you are a cat or person; just let him do his thing.
  • He likes food.  ALOT. As some Pep Band friends say, he “housed” his dinner.
  • He does not appear to be a bone type of dog.
  • He likes KONG toys.  (Doesn’t every dog?)
  • He is a scent hound.  If he picks up a scent, he wants to track.  That means:  Head down, tail up, nose to the ground, and putting all his weight into leading you to where he wants to go.
  • He likes to kiss people.  His slobber has some sort of slime coating to it that makes you glisten.

More bizzaro world with Buster…Went to PetCo to get a leash and things before the baseball game last night.  While there, we are in line, and the cashier asks us about what we’re buying for.

C:  “New Puppy?”
Us: “No…new dog.  We just adopted him.”
C:  “How old?”
Us: “Seven.”
C:  “What kind?”
Us: “Part Basset hound, part Beagle”
C:  “What shelter? The one in Burlington?”
Us: “No.  We went to Middlebury.”
Lady behind us in line: “You got BUSTER?”
Us: “Yes.”
Lady: “I’m the manager of Addison County Humane Society”
Us: “So he fell in love with your dog then?”
Lady: “Yes, my miniature schauzer.”

Oh boy. Way to be, Buster.  Here are some photos.

Our new buddy

We’ve been thinking about adding another furry friend to the house.

Today we went to the Addison County Humane Society (next county over) and picked up a new friend…Buster. He is a 7 year old Basset Hound/Beagle mix. He doesn’t howl; he tends to oink/cough at people instead. His hobbies appear to be peeing and napping. He likes car rides, visiting PetSmart, and listening to DMB, Toby Keith, and Guster. He’s not too fond of The Boss (Bruce Springsteen).
The cats are somewhat concerned about our new loud, smelly friend. (He’s not really loud; but he pants a lot and tends to be a little more not silent than they’d like him to be). We’ll keep you posted on how they adapt.
The next time you visit, be prepared to meet ol’ Buster.

Camping!

Over the 4th of July, we went camping on Burton Island.  This is an island off Lake Champlain, around St. Albans.
We visited friends by canoe last year, and this year chose to camp with them.  Because of the high water on the lake, and the potential choppiness of the bay, we chose to take the ferry, rather than paddle ourselves across.

We got to the island, and found that many of the lakefront campsites were under water.  Like this one…that looked like the swamp.

We played horseshoes, saw fireworks, and had a great time.
Mostly because our tentsite was DRY. I wish I could say the same for the folks spending their night in the St. Albans bayou.
