Happy Baptism Day!

This weekend we visited our good friends Karen & Kevin. This weekend was their twins’ baptism, at the United Church of Christ (on the green) in New Haven CT.

We got to visit Karen, Kevin, Patrick, Martin, Rudy, and had a great time. Rob & I spent Sunday morning walking around Yale University. That campus — makes me even more glad I went to Clarkson!!

Here are some photos of the weekend.

Friday Night & Saturday:
Hanging out with the family. Opening presents & eating “pas-ghetti”.
The Alligator with blocks, and the number opener were big hits with Patrick & Martin.

Sunday morning before the baptism, Rob & I took a walking tour of Yale. We viewed a few of the dormitory greens, and the chapels. We also visited the gravesite of 2 famous Yale grads — Eli Whitney (inventor of the cotton gin) and Noah Webster (original school book writer & dictionary founder).

Many of the buildings are beautiful. Like this one, which in in the law area.

However, right next to it is this — the “old document archival building”.
Looks like an Eli’s version of Clarkson’s science center.

April Showers bring all sorts of flowers!

Here are some photos of our gardens.

The rain has done a few of them some good.  I love spring.

Canoeing before Easter

My brother Gary, and his ex-college roommate, Mark, went back up to Maine last weekend to canoe in the Kenduskeag Stream canoe race. This is cold water, in some decent rapids.

Here are some photos. Photos  1,   2,   3, and  4.

Now, I don’t canoe as much as I used to, but there are a few things that I learned a long time ago:
1) Usually the person in the back is stronger. So they should, by default, be working slightly harder.
2) Usually the person in the back also is the primary steering agent of a canoe.

Gary is in the front.  By this count, my brother a) should not be steering, and b) if Gary looks like he’s working hard, then Mark should look at least as wiped out, if not more. I think Gary got the short end of the canoe paddle on this deal.

The Squirrel Strikes Again.

It’s the cats again.  This is Maggie writing this time.  Its’ MY turn…David had his turn last time & didn’t use the spell checker as much as he could have.  I’m trying to do this while Dad vacuums.  Not fun.  I got a new collar today, it is very cute.  I’m so cute…..MEOW!  (Scuffle, scritch scratch, shuffle scuffle, Ka-plunk!)
David here now.  Maggie went to look at himself in the mirror.  So pardon my spelling.  I didn’t go to lementary skool like you 2-legged folks.  Here’s our big noows.

We drew a pichture of the back yard.  The gray circuls are the burd feedurs.  We found our friend Red (the squirrel) on top of the small burd feedurs (He’s a smiley face).  Mom & Dad saw him, so Mom put some peenuts on the deck for him (littul brown circuls).

Mom & Dad spent about 20 minutes watching Red take the peanuts, eat them and bury them.  Dad was a little upset that he was digging into the grass.  I think it is because he likes to drive his big car thingy on it — the one that makes a lot of noise and shoots green stuff out the side.  And Dad doesn’t like to run over Red’s peenuts.

You can see Red’s path here.

It’s fun to watch 2 legged people watch tree rats.   That’s all for now.

Offbeat news … Molly the Deli Cat

There was a cute kitty named Molly.
Her job: catching mice in a deli
She wandered into a hole
And her meows made the customers wary.

She found herself stuck in the wall,
around pipes & beams in a hole pretty small.
Lots of people and drills;
Psychics, cameras, and frills
Helped to get Molly back to the deli hall.

Her story, rhyme free, is here.

No Sickness & Absenteeism on his watch!

I just read an article on the following…

To recap — Arthur Winston died in his sleep Thursday, at age 100. Nicknamed “Mr. Reliable”, he was an Los Angeles County MTA employee for over 70 years, and retired last month at the age of 100. Winston missed only 1 day of work during that time, to attend his wife’s funeral. For his attendance & dedication, he received an “Employee of the Century” citation from President Bill Clinton in 1996.

That’s one big “Perfect Attendance” record.

You can find the article here.

Back from the Bahamas.

We just got back from a 4-night/5-day cruise from Port Canaveral to the Bahamas and back, with friends.

It was a wonderful time. Nice 80-degree weather. And yes, we both used sunscreen. I’ll have photos posted in my Gallery space soon, but until then, here’s a neat one to check out.

In Nassau, we took a ferry to Blackbeard’s Cay, and spent the day at the beach. While headed out of Nassau Harbor, we noticed this ship beached underwater. Rob thinks that it was intentionally placed here. Its not every day you get to see a boat this big sunk underwater.
